Meda Jordan, a junior graphic design major from Dothan, recently launched her own clothing line.

Her line, called Farming Feeds, boasts T-shirts and baseball caps bearing the brand name.

Jordan developed the desire to design clothing as a senior in high school, when she attended the Dothan Technologies Center.

Soon after, she began an internship with Playmaker, a custom promotional products business in Dothan.

“I accepted that internship and started making art for Little League teams and stuff like that,” Jordan said. “I saw my designs on shirts and stuff, and I was like, ‘I can do this with my art.’ ”

As for the name, “Farming is just something I’m passionate about,” Jordan said. “Like my dad always says, ‘farming feeds.’ ”

Jordan did not initially plan to launch the line and start a business so soon.

“I always said I’d start once I graduated from Troy and had my degree and everything,” Jordan said.

Plans shifted just last month when her mother, Laurie Jordan, offered to partner with her to get the business up and running.

“Meda has been talking about wanting to do her own apparel line for a couple years,” Laurie Jordan said. “Back in the spring, she talked about coming out with a line called Farming Feeds.

“I told her, ‘You design it, and I’ll back it and help you get them ordered, get them merchandised, get them shipped,’ and she said ‘OK.’ ”

In regards to what their business looks like on a day-to-day basis, Laurie Jordan said, “Well, I just left the post office with about 12 packages.

“So, you can imagine the line behind me was not happy,” she laughed.

While the success of their business this far is exciting for them, they hope to see it grow in the future.

“I hope that we can eventually go open a wholesale branch and be able to sell to stores like your local feed store—certain hunting and fishing stores,” her mother said.

“We hope, by this time next year, to have gone to some trade shows and things like that.”

“I hope to get to the point where shirts are selling at the same rate every week,” Jordan said. “Then I can use it as an organization to start giving back to farmers.

“I want to have something where I donate my proceeds to some farm foundation. Right now, I’m working on brand recognition.

“Right now, the brand is promoting faith, family and farming.”

Apparel can be purchased at farmingfeedsapparel.com or its Facebook page.
